VeinCentre Richmond Hill:

Does sclerotherapy hurt?
Most patients describe it as mild discomfort, similar to a mosquito bite or slight burning. It’s quick and does not require anesthesia.
What is the cost of the consultation?
If you have OHIP, the cost of the consultation is covered, if not, it has a price of $150.
How is the recovery after a varicose vein treatment?
Most treatments are done in the doctor's office. It's a simple procedure and as a general rule, patients return to their daily activities immediately or one to two days after the procedure.
What is the varicose vein surgery recovery time?
Recovery from varicose vein surgery typically involves a few days of initial discomfort, swelling, and bruising.
Patients are advised to rest and elevate their legs, gradually resuming light activities within the first week while avoiding strenuous exercises and heavy lifting.
Over the next two to four weeks, swelling should diminish, and patients can increase their activity levels.
Can I finance my treatment?
Yes. We offer flexible payment plans through Medicard, starting at $22/week, with instant pre-approval and no down payment required.
Does OHIP cover varicose vein treatments at VeinCentre, and what are the requirements for coverage?
Coverage criteria are determined by OHIP policies and clinical findings, including symptoms and duplex ultrasound results. Eligibility should be confirmed during consultation.
Why should I choose a board-certified vascular surgeon for my vein treatment instead of a general cosmetic clinic?
A board-certified vascular surgeon has specialized medical and surgical training in diagnosing and treating vein disease, including venous insufficiency and complex vascular conditions. This expertise allows for comprehensive evaluation using duplex ultrasound and evidence-based treatment planning. A vascular surgeon is trained to evaluate both the appearance of veins and the underlying venous circulation using diagnostic testing such as duplex ultrasound.
How can I get rid of my varicose veins in Ontario?
Modern treatment options may include radiofrequency ablation (RFA), endovenous laser treatment (EVLA), ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy, medical adhesive closure, microphlebectomy, or surgery in selected cases. The most appropriate treatment depends on duplex ultrasound findings and individual anatomy.
Why choose Dr. Luis Figueroa?
Bilingual care (English and Spanish), advanced techniques, and over 10 years of experience in vascular surgery in Canada.
When will I see results from the treatment?
Results often start to appear 2 to 6 weeks after treatment. Full results may take longer, especially if multiple sessions are needed.
Do you accept patients without OHIP?
Yes. We welcome private pay and insured patients. The cost of the consultation without OHIP is $150.
How do I get a diagnosis?
Diagnosis typically includes a medical history, physical examination, and duplex ultrasound when indicated.
Duplex ultrasound is considered the standard imaging test for evaluating venous insufficiency and varicose veins.
What type of treatment should I request? Do I receive treatment in the first appointment?
We recommend scheduling an evaluation appointment. After the assessment, Dr. Figueroa will be able to suggest the most suitable treatment for your situation.
The cost and treatment plan are based on the diagnosis, which requires a physical examination and an ultrasound to assess vein health.
The ultrasound can be requested beforehand, and if you have OHIP coverage, it will be covered, just like the first evaluation visit.
How many sessions will I need to treat my varicose veins?
The number of sessions varies based on:
-
Type of veins (spider, reticular, varicose)
-
Patient response
-
Treatment method used (liquid vs. foam, guided vs. non-guided)
Some cases resolve in 1–2 sessions, others may need multiple visits.
What is the difference between Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) and traditional vein stripping surgery?
Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) is a minimally invasive procedure that uses heat energy delivered through a catheter to close diseased veins from the inside. Traditional vein stripping surgery involves surgically removing the vein through incisions. Compared to vein stripping, RFA is typically associated with smaller incisions, less discomfort, faster recovery, and minimal downtime. Most RFA procedures are performed in an outpatient setting under local anesthesia.
What "walk-in, walk-out" vein procedures do you offer that don't require general anesthesia or hospital stays?
Many modern vein treatments are performed as outpatient “walk-in, walk-out” procedures that do not require general anesthesia or overnight hospital stays. These may include Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA), ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy, foam sclerotherapy, and medical adhesive closure (vein glue). Most patients are able to walk immediately after treatment and return to normal daily activities shortly afterward.
Is the treatment painful?
Most patients experience little to mild discomfort during modern minimally invasive vein procedures. The level of discomfort varies depending on the treatment type and individual patient factors.
Looking for a vascular surgeon near you?
Dr. Figueroa offers treatments for varicose veins, sclerotherapy, aneurysms, and more, all from his two locations: Toronto and Richmond Hill.
Do spider veins require treatment?
Spider veins are usually a cosmetic concern. In some patients, they may coexist with underlying venous insufficiency, which can be evaluated with duplex ultrasound when clinically indicated. Treatment primarily improves appearance and may reduce associated symptoms in selected patients.
When can I schedule a first appointment?
We offer appointments on Tuesdays, Wednesaday, Thursdays and Fridays. Email us for more information regarding the first appointment.
Do I need to be referred by my family doctor?
A referral is generally not required for consultation regarding varicose or spider veins. Referral requirements for other vascular conditions may vary depending on the condition and insurance or healthcare coverage requirements.
Should I wear compression stockings before or after varicose vein treatment?
The use of compression stockings might be recommended before and after the procedure, depending on medical evaluation.
Before the treatment, they might be advised to prepare the veins, particularly in severe cases or before invasive procedures.
After the treatment, compression stockings are common to reduce swelling, improve circulation, and support recovery.
It's always important to follow the doctor's precise instructions regarding the type and duration of compression stocking use based on individual needs.
Can I return to work after the treatment?
Many patients return to normal daily activities within 24–48 hours after minimally invasive vein treatment, although recovery time varies depending on the procedure performed and individual circumstances.
Can facial veins and redness be effectively treated with the Vbeam laser at your Toronto clinic?
Yes. Vbeam laser treatment is commonly used to treat facial spider veins, redness, rosacea-related vascular changes, and small visible blood vessels. The laser targets abnormal blood vessels beneath the skin while minimizing damage to surrounding tissue. Multiple sessions may be recommended depending on the severity and treatment goals.
