Serious Vascular Conditions

At Ontario Vascular, while our primary focus is on vein care and circulation disorders, we also provide initial evaluation and diagnostic services for several critical vascular diseases. These conditions may require urgent attention and are often managed in collaboration with specialized hospital-based teams.

Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD)

Peripheral Artery Disease occurs when arteries that supply blood to the legs or arms become narrowed due to plaque buildup.

This limits circulation and can lead to leg pain, ulcers, and in severe cases, limb-threatening infections.

Common symptoms:

  • Leg pain while walking (claudication)

  • Coldness or numbness in the feet or toes

  • Wounds that don’t heal on the legs or feet

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA)

An Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm is an abnormal bulge in the aorta—the body’s largest artery—as it passes through the abdomen. If it grows large enough, it can rupture, causing a life-threatening emergency.

Risk factors include:

  • Smoking

  • Age over 65

  • Family history of aneurysm

  • High blood pressure

Carotid Artery Disease

Carotid artery disease involves narrowing of the arteries that supply blood to the brain. It’s a major risk factor for stroke and often has no symptoms until it becomes critical.

Warning signs may include:

  • Sudden dizziness or imbalance

  • Numbness or weakness on one side of the body

  • Visual disturbances or slurred speech

  • Brief episodes of confusion or fainting
